Who is eligible?

Affiliates are individuals who have achieved the requisite academic standards, who are practising in the field of kinesiology, and whose applications for affiliation have been approved by the Board of Directors of the CKA.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR KINESIOLOGISTS

The Kinesiologist affiliation is open to individuals who

  • have graduated from an academic four-year program in the field of kinesiology, human kinetics, physical activity, or exercise science approved by the Board;
  • can prove having been trained in the required competencies and standards;
  • carry membership from a CKA-recognized provincial kinesiology association;
  • have successfully completed any examinations and other requirements as recognized by the Board;
  • are employed and/or practise in kinesiology or who wish to become so employed or practising; and
  • meet the continuing education requirements,
  • accept and agree to comply with the code of ethics, and
  • carry professional liability insurance for kinesiology practice (entire scope of kinesiology).

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMICS

The academia affiliation is open to individuals who do not practise kinesiology but

  • are enrolled in a course of study leading to a master’s or doctoral degree in kinesiology from a post-secondary educational institution in Canada that is recognized by the Board, or
  • are researchers or academics in the field of kinesiology, or
  • are, or were, employed as a professor/lecturer or faculty member of a post-secondary educational institution in Canada that is recognized by the Board, in a faculty or department that offers courses in kinesiology, human kinetics, and related subjects, and
  • accepts and agrees to comply with the code of ethics and
  • carries professional liability insurance.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS

The student affiliation is open to students who have successfully completed at least two years of an undergraduate program in the field of kinesiology, human kinetics, physical activity, or exercise science.

 

If you are eligible for affiliation the following will apply:


1. After receipt of your payment, your completed application form, and all necessary documents (attached to your application form), your name will be submitted to the Board of Directors for ratification.
2. Once the Board has ratified your application, you will be sent a letter indicating that you are an Affiliated Kinesiologist of the CKA along with your affiliation number and certificate of affiliation, plus the username and password to purchase your mandatory insurance coverage.
3. You will need to purchase your mandatory professional insurance product with PROLINK in order to benefit from preferred CKA-affiliated rates. You must include your proof of insurance in your CKA affiliation application.

 

If you are NOT eligible for affiliation the following will apply:


You will be advised of what courses you require to be eligible for affiliated status. All questions or appeals related to a Membership Committee decision must be submitted in writing to the Membership Committee. Responses will be sent to the applicant in writing after the committee’s next meeting.

 

Become affiliated or renew your CKA affiliation
